Based on principles of Arya Samaj aims of AHAM [Arya Hindus for Awareness of Mental Health] would be to promote awareness, education, advocacy and inclusivity surrounding mental health and substance use in the Hindu American community.

This project is being initiated by Arya Pratinidhi Sabha America in collaboration with Michigan State University Department of Psychiatry. A MOU has been signed between both organizations.

Project Term

The project’s initial term will be for one year, October 1, 2021- September 30, 2022.

Project Committee

The project committee will comprise of 5 members:

Project Lead:  Dr. Shuchi Khosla, MD

Two Faculty Representatives from Michigan State University

Two Volunteer Representatives from Arya Pratinidhi Sabha America

Action Plan & Deliverables

The deliverables will include:

  1. Educational webinars for the Hindu American community: 6
  2. Focused Group Discussions for the Acharyas of Arya Samaj on mental health issues in the community: 6
  3. Focused Group discussion for the Physicians of Hindu American Origin on mental health issues in the community: 4
  4. Flyers providing culturally sensitive education materials and mental health resources for the Hindu American community: 6
  5. Survey based Data Collection from the Hindu American community with focus on mental health issues: 4
