Description

Vyavharbhanu – Light on Virtuous Conduct by Maharshi Swami Dayanand Sarasvati is an english translation by Dr. Sudhir Anand.

This book is an English translation of Vyavhārbhānuh which Maharshi Swami Dayanand Sarasvati wrote in 1880 in Hindi to educate and help the people of India on how to improve their character and conduct as well as interact with others virtuously. His goal was especially directed towards the youth to help them learn the ancient wisdom of India and how this would help them grow to be successful as well as find peace, prosperity, and happiness in life by being truthful, honest, respectful, and using common sense when interacting with others. His narrative includes quotes from Vedic scriptures, parables, and short stories to make his advice easy to understand, enjoyable to read and practical in life.

Illiteracy and superstition were common in India in 1880’s and many in the priestly class often exploited the gullible public with their lies, deceptions and concoctions of the scriptures; Swami Ji advises the readers how to prevent being misled and deal with such persons. While the characters and the context in the modern world have changed depending upon the country, the exploitation of gullible continues even in countries with high degree of literacy where politicians, leaders, television commentators etc. intentionally mislead large segments of public with their lies, disinformation, and deceptions. This book is a reminder why we must uphold truth, virtue, and decency in the society.
